Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio

Vehicular Homicide

My son, age 18, was in a car accident 9/13/03 that killed his girl friend. No drugs or alcohol were found in his system. He fell asleep driving. Neither were wearing seat belts. 11/18 we were advised that he is being charged with vehicular homicide. We are in the process of obtaining a lawyer.

Her family is very supportive of my son and visits with him at least weekly to encourage him and help him deal with the loss and guilt he feels.

What is the 'standard' process and sentensing for this type of charge in OH? Anything we should be aware of going into this process? Anything we/he can do to make sentensing lighter?

He is currently working and starting college in January.

Any feedback you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your assistance!
