Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio
Welfare fraud
I had a child in my care for 3 years. During this time, the birth mother provided no support and rarely saw the child. During this time, she collected financial aid for college, filed tax returns using him as a dependent (so did her boyfriend), and collected every form of welfare imaginable--all the while claiming this child as living with her. I want to report her, but it has been a year since she took the child back. Are there statutes of limitations on these crimes, and are they felonies?

Re: Welfare fraud
I'm not sure what the statute of limitations is for tax fraud, but let the IRS decide if they have a case. In any event they will force her to file an amended return.
