Does a employeer need to put in writing reason for termination of an individual over a certain age?

Not unless you (1) are over 40 years old; (2) were terminated as part of a reduction-in-force or other termination program; AND (3) are asked to sign a release waiving any claims against the employer.

No. Generally there is no requirement that an employer state the reason for discharge,in writing.
