plead to judge in brothers' behalf
My brother is in jail for breaking probation for a dui conviction. It was his first offense and was tested positive for drugs on one of his probation visits. He was to turn himself in and didn't. He was pulled over while driving (with no license) and is now serving 30 days and goes before the judge to see if he has to serve more time for the prior stuff. My family are writing letters to appeal to the judge to send him to a drug rehab instead of staying in jail. This was a prospect at one time. What can I say in a letter that would help convince the judge t allow this? If we thought spending the time in jail would work for him, we'd be all for it. But we feel he needs real help for depression and anxiety and drug use.

Re: plead to judge in brothers' behalf
It's your brother, not you, who may convince the judge that he needs rehabilitation. During his thirty days in jail he can seek treatment in the jail on his own initiative. If he doesn't seek treatment, or at least make the inquiry, you may as well leave him in jail.
