Legal Question in Education Law in Ohio

My daughters attend public high school in Ohio. Everytime they have to give a presentation or speech at school, the teacher requires them to "dress up". This means dress pants, or skirt, etc. I understand the importance of teaching students to present themselves well, but my daughters truly don't own anything other than jeans or shorts or sweatpants. If they don't "dress up" for the assignment, they are given points off. I can't imagine this being "ok." Their father and I are already putting their brother through college and are saving as much as possible to pay for college tuition for the girls too. It is wasteful and a hardship for us to buy dress clothes. Is it legal to require them to "dress up" or have their grade reduced?

In Ohio, schools will have a lot of latitude in how they grade the students. Perhaps the solution is to go to garage sales and try to find some "nice" clothes second hand rather than buying them new. Communication with the teachers about your financial issues might resolve the issue as well.
