Legal Question in Elder Law in Ohio

Elder Aunt

Hello my wife has an Aunt who is up in years 88, who lives alone. Her aunt hasn't seen a doctor in years & refuses to see one. She has obvious health issues & her living conditions have deteriorated greatly in regards to personal hygiene & cleanness of her home. No one knows really anything in regards to her health history , are her taxes being paid ? Bills being paid ? etc etc. She does have a good handle on her mental side & refuses any advice - suggestions etc. She does have a younger sister who is local. How could she proceed to gain control of the situation? I feel that she needs to be in some type of assisted living environment - where she could receive medical attention - meals - & be among people in a nice clean living condition. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Sonny

Re: Elder Aunt

This happens often among the elderly, especially with those who live alone. Have you tried contacting the senior citizen's services at her local city hall, or adult protective services of your county? If you feel she is in danger of self-neglect, they will check out the situation for you. Then a guardianship might be recommended.
