Legal Question in Elder Law in Ohio

Elder law

91yr.old father caring for 91yr old mom (gastric cancer and Alz) and I am part caretaker. (cook, shop, laundry, meet ev. wk with hospice nurse and SW.APS was notified few mths back of ''neglect'', I guess. I think the SW reported them, don't know why. House is clean, mother has a bath lady 5 days a week, I monitor the house, etc. APS popped up again because father cancelled the bathe lady 2 times last week and that is a NO NO and a stipulation from the APS. also get MOWheels 5 days a week.APS want me to get father a geriatric assessment, which is fine. But just HOW much clout does the agency have? They are saying I must ''wrap my mind around'' getting them into assisted living. Do I need an atty, how do I get father to tell me his ''assets'', he is very close mouthed about money. I got a general idea 2 years ago when I sat with a planner and him. Also, is there a way to protect any of his money and the house? Can he quit claim to me and my sister, I don't really know what to do.

Re: Elder law

I do suggest you consult with an attorney. I assume your father still has his mental faculties, or most of them. Perhaps if the social service system know there are legal protections in place, for example, a guardianship as the point of contact for them, you would experience fewer problems. Caring for elderly parents is by no stretch easy.
