Nursing homes & power of attorney
Are nursing homes required to notify next of kin if a power of attorney is needed and before one is granted to a non-relative? A relative died intestate and we learned the power of attorney (not related) had closed out his account the day after the poa was granted and appropriated all of the money for himself. What are the legal ramifications and what is our recourse?

Re: Nursing homes & power of attorney
Definite wrongdoing has occurred. A Power of Attorney ceases to be valid at the moment of death. Whatever was removed from the account belongs to the estate. Please call my office to discuss the matter further.
