Legal Question in Elder Law in Ohio

Power of Attorney for Parents

I have two questions.

1. Can there be two principals within one Durable Power of Attorney document? I would like to have one document that covers both parents.

2. Can two different Power of Attorney documents for the same person be valid at the same time, if they are granting different powers?

Thank you for your help!

Re: Power of Attorney for Parents

Your answer to No. 1 is yes, but complications can arise when one person predeceases another. I suggest preparing a POA much like wills between couples are prepared: two documents, very similar information.

Your answer to No. 2 is yes, also, when preparing 'limited' powers of attorney. This type of document, rather than be broad and general in scope, spells out the particular powers and duties of the appointed person.
