retired vet. with no family in assisted living
Ihave my neighbor who is a veteran and he lives in assisted living now he has been in and out of nursing homes. we would like to purchase his home that needs lots of work but he says he will lose his va benefits if he sells it to us.

People in assisted living facilities are usually determined as capable of returning to their homes. They are not in 'custodial care.' You would have to see the VA's determination of benefits to know exactly how your neighbor's home has been factored in. Perhaps he's not ready to sell it to anyone and he wants to keep his options open.
