Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Abusive Husband & Father

I filed for a divorce two years ago but dropped it after I saw my husband in action with his lawyer. He is an abusive husband and father and I watch my daughter when she is near him. I never leave her alone in the house alone with him because he is abusive to me and her. She's two years old, and had to be taken to the hospital when she was five months old because he swung her around and said that he didn't know that ''he played too rough with her''. I dropped the divorce because he convinced me that he would get unsupervised visitation and I saw first hand that he charms people into believing that he is not sick. He suffers from a mental illness which he cloaks and has narcassistic tendencies. I am only staying with him to protect my daughter because I fear that there is a chance that he might get unsupervised visitation. I am not willing to take the chance, but will stay where I can watch him so she won't get hurt. Is there anything that I can do to ensure that he doesn't get unsupervised visitation. He is a criminal investigator and flashes his badge to gain credibility with everyone. Is there anyone that can help me ensure that my daughter is safe? I have been in this situation for three years. Help!

Re: Abusive Husband & Father

I can see from what you write why you would fear the system. But your husband's conduct and your fear is holding you hostage to your marriage. Consider re-filing for divorce and at the time of filing seeking a temporary protection or restraining order of supervised visitation, and take it from there. First, find a support group, a women's organization, a church, or an adult learning center for you that possibly involves your child. Getting out of an abusive relationship and surviving it requires support and time, and action.
