Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Course of action concerning abandoned granddaughter??

My daughter has chosen to break a restraining order placed on her

husband after a domestic violence

incident by staying with her

husband elsewhere than their

home. Her 4 yo daughter (my granddaughter) has been in my

care since the incident several days

ago and my daughter has had no

contact, no response to phone calls

and has obviously abandoned her

daughter to me. What is my

recourse as far as the law? Can I

file charges? Can I seek

guardianship? How do I know

where to begin...I want to protect

my granddaughter as her step

father (who is mentally

ill/schizophrenic) doesn't want her

in their life and has given my

daughter an ultimatum (him or the

child) and she has obviously made

her choice by abandoning this

beautiful child....I am sick over it.

Re: Course of action concerning abandoned granddaughter??

I both parents are willing to sign over total care of your grandchild to you immediately, you might be able to have them sign a power of attorney for kinship care granting you the power of attorney.
