Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio
Ok so I have a baby girl that is a little over one. The girl got preganant and just up and moved out of state with her mother. She begins calling me two months after trying to get back in a relationship with me i tell her no so she quits calling. Four months after having the baby which is May she comes back to Ohio. The day after she returns she goes down to child support. I recieve papers and now have to wait to take a DNA test. I have to wait a year for the DNA test and during that period she never trid to get in touch with me. I had no clue where she was and she knows where I was so its not like she couldnt have contacted me. Finally I take the test and the baby is mine. I get court ordered to pay child support but still have not heard from the mom. I am ordered to pay 200 dollars a month. Just recently I have learned that she moved to Tennessee with the baby. So what I want to know is do I still have to paychild support. She has not in any way tried to contacted me at all. Please help thanks.

The answer is, yes. The court looks at the best interest of the child and not necessarily the relationship of the parents. The child needs to be supported whether or not the parents are responsible or mature at the time of the child's birth. There are parental rights and there are parental responsibilities. Obviously support is partly your responsibility. You do have the parental right of visitation. Also, perhaps someday your daughter will try to seek you out.
