Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Back Pay Child Support

In 1989 I birth to my son and the father of my child did not give one penny to help in support of my child in fact he told me to stay away from him. I had to drop out of high school and my son and I were even homeless for a while. I even had to have my son live with relatives because we didn't have a place of our own. When I was on welfare I gave DHS absent child information but they never collected anything from him. All these years I thought he was in arrearge but come to find out he wasn't. The father finally decided he wanted to help in 2001 and I allowed him to have custody. Well he doubled crossed me and took me to court to get child support after he learned I graduated from college and got a good job. I fought him but lost because the state said he was never in arrearage and because I couldn't proove I ever had custody. Now I have to pay the man who abandoned his child and never helped me with anything. Is there any way I could take this to the higher courts? I have proof of custody!

Re: Back Pay Child Support

If he went all those years without paying support, and you can prove you had the child and that he didn't pay sh*t, then you need to hire a family law lawyer to file the appropriate paperwork to get the back support you are entitled to. I can't believe a court would make you pay support and not him - that doesn't make any sense and I'm sure there are some important facts that are not stated above.
