Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

blackmail

my friends mother is married to a cop and he treats her bad and is starting to get a little scary, she wants to divorce him. she has had her kids taken away from her before for child endangerment or abuse im not sure which one. he threatened her and said that if she leaves him he will take her to court and claim she is an unfit mother. there are many people, including members of the clergy who would testify that she is a good mother now. he also threatend to plant evidence on her and have her arrested and he has threatened to cancel her insurance and not tell her so she will get pulled over and get in trouble. she has very little money so she is sort of stuck. is there anything she can do to stop him?

Re: blackmail

In Ohio domestic relations cases, Courts have the authority to, and very often do, issue temporary orders which include an award of attorney's fees and case expenses. There is not a whole lot that your friend's mother can do about the threats of using her past against her. She needs to focus on the present and the kind of person and parent she is now.

With regard to planting evidence, that is a threat many police officers make in domestic relations disputes. That issue should be reported to his supervisor.
