Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Child custody

My nephews' ex- girlfriend passed away last year, and they had two kids together, plus she had one w/ another man, so a total of 3 kids. Since my cousin and the other father are both in a correctional facility, the maternal grandfather and aunt are taking care of the kids. They are very unfit and the children are unhappy. The grandfather and the aunt do not know how to deal w/ the kids and the whole situation, but its been a year. And nothin has improved. The kids are so miserable. In the kids best interest, I think I, as the paternal aunt, and my husband would be more successful at raising the kids, seeing as to how we have already raised 4 kids of our own. What rights do we have, or what can we do to help these kids.?

Re: Child custody

You might be able to take in the children for a year through a "kinship power of attorney" without going to court. This allows the children to be with you, attend school in your district, talk to teachers, guidance counselors, etc. If things work out and you decide to renew the kinship POA, then the court requires a hearing on the matter.
