Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio
Child support as a legal guardian
When my step-daughter got pregnant out of wedlocklock, my wife and I decided to take legal guardianship of the baby and raise it as our own. We eventually planned on legally adopting the baby, but before that happened we split up. The baby is now two and a half, and we have been living apart for 1 year. My question is: When we file for divorce, what, if any, child support will I be legally liable for? Again, we never filed for adoption, but were apointed legal guardians by the court.

Re: Child support as a legal guardian
It appears that you and your wife are joint guardians. (Assuming there is no 'estate', you are both guardians of the 'person'.) If so, it appears that you wish to terminate your guardianship. This would be done through probate court. Beyond this, I can't say for certain because the court will look very hard at what type of support this child will have if you stop contributing.
