Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Child Support Money

My boyfriends mother filed for child support for him when they lived in Ohio. His real dad lives in VA. This was back in 1985. He paid her 16,000.00 Of which the child has seen nothing. He was not sent to school nor was a car furnished for him. Another court order is demanding 31,000.00 be paid directly to her now.

The boy is 22 years old and would like the money paid to him. If his mother gets it she will buy herself a new car and spend it on herself and not her son. None of the money ever sent to her was for the child it was for her. IS there a way to get the money to the child? Who is now 22 years old?

Re: Child Support Money

He will have to make a claim against the mother for any child support which was not utilized directly for his support while living with her.

Re: Child Support Money

Just to amplify Mr. Aspinwall's response, the son's claim would likely have to show how much of the money was not used for the child's support. Housing, food, clothes, school fees, etc. are a part of child support as is utilities, telephones, dr. visits, etc.
