Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

child support is set too high

My son & his former fianc has a 1 yo child together. They have recently separated. They are going thru setting up child support etc. The calculated amount of child support puts my son in the negative by about $45 per week. His expenses are basic living expenses and student loan payments. He has no other credit card or vehicle payments. In fact his vehicle is a late 80s vehicle. His lawyer & the child support agency is telling him there is nothing he can do to cut his child support in half so he can live. Is this true? She is unwilling to negotiate. I cant believe that they can put a man in financial ruins like this without taking existing bills into consideration. He sees his child on a regular basis and wants to pay support. Please advise if there is any action that can be taken.

Thank you!

Re: child support is set too high

The only deductions that are available from child support is ordinary and necessary business expenses for self employment, and local income taxes. Otherwise, he just has to get another job, and not tell anyone about it.
