i am trying to get custody of my grandaughter and her mother is willing to give temporary custody to me and her father,but do we need a lawyer or can we file ourselves?

You can get a grandparents power of attorney either online or at most Family or Juvenile Courts. You need only fill it out correctly and file it. The power of attoney, however, is revocable by the parents at any time for any reason.
If that were to happen, and you wanted custody, you would need an attorney
