Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Divorce and New Marriage

Hello,

I married my husband 1 1\2 years ago. His former wife and him had been married for 8 years. My question is, if something would happen to my husband as far as death, can she come back on me and take our home and any bank accounts or any assets he owns since she was married longer to him than me? This has bothered my husband and me because we did hear it was possible? Please let us know, and what can we do to prevent any future problems in this area?

Thank You,

Cher Twoey

Re: Divorce and New Marriage

This is not a problem, provided that your husband destroys and and all copies of wills that may have named the first wife. The first divorce automatically terminates any inheritance rights given to her by the law.
