Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio
ending relationship
have been involved with man for 24 years.am divorced and he claims he's divorced. he promised marriage but will not commit. i am financially dependent on him. i believe he is still married. he lies constantly about his whereabouts and activities. we have jointly owned property in colorado, i have property in my name in michigan, he has two properties in ohio and one in tennessee. i quit my job at his request and left my family with the promise of marriage to him. i want out of the relationship and want to sell and divide properties jointly owned. am I entitled to financial restitution from him? i have no means of support other than him paying house pyments, etc and small pension from former job. he is leading double lives with me and his wife..no record of his divorce in ohio where he claims he filed. home where we reside in ohio is titled in his name and ''wife'' with no name of wife. do we qualify as common law marriage in ohio or colorado if he is not divorced? has he commited fraud? can we divide his assets as I have provided a home for him for 18 years. we receive mail at home addresses and have told people we are husband and wife. we do not file joint income taxes. please advise how to end relationship and get financial help

Re: ending relationship
Common law marriages were recognized prior to 10/10/1991 in Ohio. It appears you have been together since 1989. You may be able to separate and divide your common law assets on this basis in Ohio if you meet the other conditions of having a relationship in common law.
