Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio
I have currently found myself unemployed. I reside in Ohio where I have shared parenting with my ex-husband over our five year old son. I have managed to establish a place of residence and and job if I am able to move to Portland, Oregon. Both of my children have expressed the desire to move away with their mother. My ex-husband has stated that this will "make me happy" and he will not go along with any visitation arrangements I try to discuss with him. I know this move will better the quality of life my children and I have. It will be removing from a negative family history and providing more stability. I am not sure as to what I need to file, what will be considered by a judge, or how to find legal aid for someone in my situation.

You would file a motion to modify your child support guidelines. Moving to the West Coast upon the objection of the other parent, even if you have found employment there, is a challenge. If the father was agreeable and the court could see that you both made reasonable arrangements for both parents to spend time with the children, the court would be more amenable to a modification of this sort. I doubt that you can get legal aid assistance, but call your local office and ask. Also, have you considered mediating this matter with your children's father? Mediation may smooth out the rough spots. In mediation, sometimes issues based in anger and resentment can be lessened.
