Role of Guardian Ad Litem

In a general sense the role of the GAL is to act as an independent voice for a minor in a court proceeding. I say voice because the GAL, depending on the proceeding may or may not be a lawyer.Beyond that general statement, it gets very complex. I have been a court appointed GAL. I have also served as a prosecutor in neglect/abuse cases and GALs were always appointed to represent children in those cases. You might wish to e-mail me and I may be able to answer you more specifically about this.
