A gambling wife

My father is an unemployed welder. He is 59 and trying very hard to be able to retire by 62. My mother works, does not pay any bills or household expences. She has been gambleing all her money away. With my dad not working he can't afford to divorce her and give up half the house and few bods he has, but he can't afford to keep her either. Any suggestions?

My suggestion is to limit her access to any money. This may force her to get a job to support her gambling habit. Further, One can always file divorce without an attorney, but it usually takes longer and is usually much messier.
