Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

gender of lawyer in child custody case

Is it true that it's advisable for me (the mother) to hire a female lawyer to increase my odds of prevailing in court? (The father has hired a female lawyer.)

Re: gender of lawyer in child custody case

This is a strategy, but this strategy generally doesn't influence the court. Many women lawyers take on domestic law cases because of their personal orientations, but there are many good male attorneys who practice domestic relations law. Find one whom you feel you can relate well to and will do the work promptly at a reasonable fee. If this is a custody case, the court will focus on deciding what is in the best interest of the child.
