Greiving widows law
My Grandfather died in the past 6 months and there has been some problems with his 2nd wife. The lawers from her side of the "fight" have started taking about some kind of greiving widows laws. Can you tell me somemore about this? The only thing that they have really said is that it entitles her to so much of the estate no matter what the his will or other agreements say. thanks for any help you can give me on this.

I've never heard it called that, but the law makes provision for a surviving spouse (husband or wife) and any surviving minor children.
It's been a while since I have had to consider this question, but I believe that under the statute the spouse is entitled to make an election between taking what is given him or her in the will or, in the alternative, a certain percentage of the assets, which I believe is one third. You might want to inquire of the Probate Court if this is what is being talked about.
