Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio
Inheritance
I have just been notified by mail that I am receiving an inheritance from a relative. My marriage is heading for divorce and I need to know if my wife would be entitled to any of the inheritance in the division of assets. Are there any ways to hide or make the money unattainable to her.

It will be your property and not subject to division if you keep it separated and away from marital assets. Call with any questions. Steve 440.835.8200
Re: Inheritance
Generally, speaking an inheritance is considered seperate property and not part of the marital estate. I would not advise attempting to hide any assets in a divorce proceeding. However, do place the funds in a seperate account rather than combining it with marital funds so it will be easier to trace the fact that it came from the inheritance. Contact an attorney if divorce is being contemplated.
