Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio
My ex and I have joint custody. Due to my son's unruliness I sent him to live with his father. My son is chronically truant from school. When my son does not want to go to school his father will call and say he is sick. The school sent a notice stating that if this continues a truant officer will get involved. No truant officer got involved and the behavior continued. I called the school to see what can be done. I was told it is difficult to get the courts involved so they sent a notice home saying there must be a doctor's note for absences or there will be consequences. This worked for a couple weeks but it is starting again. My son stayed up late and could not get up for school. His father called and told the school this and also said that my son gets upset when I find out he is not in school. Is there action I can take to make sure my son is in school everyday?

You could either order the boy back to living with you (assuming your court ordered custody arrangement hasn't changed and still has you as the residential parent) and force him to go to school every day, or you could call the truancy officer and offer to cooperate with him\her to enforce the rules about going to school. This could put sufficient pressure on the dad to force the kid to attend school.
You could also talk to the schools guidance consellor and principal and vice principal about what ideas they might have to help the situation.
