Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Joint Custody

My ex-husband and I have joint custody of our 6 children with me having them every other weekend. He is considered the residential parent. He had lost his job in the spring and has been trying to acquire a job paying about the same with no such luck. He is now telling the children that if he doesn't get a comparable paying job within the next two months, that they are going to sell everything and move to California where his relatives live. He is also telling the children that, when and if they do, they will be ''farmed'' out to different relatives. A few to a brother and the rest to some sisters.

My question is, can he do that if we have joint custody? If they do move to California, I'm afraid I will never get to see them again since I make enough right now just to get by. Are there any resources out there that can help me get accommodations for all of us to stay together and get financial help? I really appreciate any kind of help.

Thank you!

Re: Joint Custody

He should not be able to do this. Take a look at your Shared Parenting Plan. It should say that parents must be notified of out of county moves and out of state moves, and the other parent must approve. The plan can be modified to lighten the burden on one parent. Come up with alternatives that involve just the two of you and modify the plan.
