Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio
Can my lawyer discuss my divorce with my wife's boss?
I hired a lawyer to file for divorce. My wife works as a legal secretary in the area and she knows the system and the people, which I told him, he knew her. He took my money and told me he'd have something to her attorney by the coming Friday, this was Wednesday. Later Wednesday via telephone he told me he had talked with her boss, another attorney, he'd learned who her attorney was and that they were going to file a dissolution. I simply wanted out of the relationship and I was told the dissolution would cost me less! Fine! On Friday I called to see if the paperwork had been filled. He did not return my call. I called again Today, Monday, and he told me he didn't file anything and that because he told her boss I was filing she had gone ahead and filed divorce instead and that I should expect to be served soon.
Is he allowed to do that? I specifically hired him so I could file, be the one filing, basically showing I was the one that wanted out of the relationship. I lost that, it just doesn't seem right.
Thanks

Actually, he tried to help both you and her by suggesting a dissolution. They are much cheaper and easier to get through. It really doesn't matter who initially files a divorce. In fact, you saved the filing fee by her filing first. Best Regards, Edward DiCato
