Guardian are appointed on the motion of an interested party or by the courts on its own to take physical care of a person or for limited purposes such as to only look after a person's financial matters.

Guardians can have limited powers or be appointed for limited times. The process for being appointed a guardian involves the probate court in your county. Chapter 2111 of the Ohio Revised Code governs the procedures. http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/2111
