Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

I live in Ohio. I have been living seperately from my husband for 7 or 8 years now.

He has been living in another state for the past 3 yrs. He does not want to end the marriage. and I do not have the money for a battle. I heard that I can place an add in the paper and start the process of terminating the marriage. Is this true? If so, how do I go about it or what are my other options? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Madam,

You can certainly file here in Ohio. However, it will not be as simple as providing notice in the newspaper. Service by publication (the newspaper notice that you are referring to) only suffices when you do not have actual notice of your Husband's whereabouts.

However, that being said, the process does not have to be long and expensive. If you properly serve your husband and he fails to appropriately respond, your matter could be resolved very quickly and inexpensively. Actual service is actually quite a bit faster than publication notice anyhow.

Please contact me directly should you have any further questions. Ryan D. Kuhn (614) 481-3737.
