Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

located in OHIO ......my son (19) and his girlfriend (17) have been in a relationship for aprox. 2yrs. they recently had a baby togetherand he signed the birth cert. and a paper stating that he is responsible for the baby , now his girlfriends parents are trying to keep him away from the baby and says that they are going to change the baby's lastname which is my son's. Can they do that and what are is rights?

In Ohio, one way to put the brakes on all of that would be to file an action to establish paternity in the county juvenile court. That would also entail setting up child support payments and the judge would also put together a custody and visitation schedule. But once a case was opened up, they would likely need to seek the court's permission to do the things that you are worried about and in seeking that permission, the court would notify your son and let him present his side of the argument for why such things should not be done.
