Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Location of lawyer filing for divorce

Counselor,

I am about to file for divorce from my husband. He lives in Defiance County in Ohio. I need to know if the attorney I hire needs to practice in Ohio or if I can hire someone where I'm living now (Illinois)?

thanks

Re: Location of lawyer filing for divorce

I would advise you to get an attorney from the county that it is filed in. For one thing you will be paying $125.00 for travel time. For another thing your attorney should know the

Judge on a first name basis or you're in trouble. I wouldn't even advise that you get an attorney from the next county let alone two states away. If your Illinois attorney is not licensed to practice in Ohio he can't practice here. Even if he is an attorney needs to being doing Ohio divorces on a weekly basis or he is clueless when it comes to the practicle side of the law. I think that Defiance has a lawyer named Jim Hitchcock that is very good.
