Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Is my marriage legitimate?

Hello,

My husband and I recently found out that the Pastor who married us 4 years ago was not licensed in the denomination he was preaching under at the time of our marriage. According to the Sec. of State's website, Pastors have no authority to solemnize marriages if the denomination on their license does not match the one they are preaching in. This particular Pastor did have a license, though, and has since gotten licensed into the correct denomination. How picky is the law on this and where does our marriage stand if this pastor had no authority to marry us?

Re: Is my marriage legitimate?

Your marriage is valid unless someone tries to challenge the license as it was finally filed with the probate court. You can't get a new license to marry unless the other one is thrown out.
