Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Not married/ pregnant and know the father. What are my custody rights?

I am 37 pregnant and currently obtaining my master's degree. The father of the baby wanted to have a child and we agreed to get pregnant. Now, we are no longer together. My family lives in MD. I would like to stay in Ohio to complete my advanced degree, but am wondering what rights the father will have to my baby. I can move and complete my degree elsewhere if need be. I just don't want him dictating where I can live. I don't want to stay in Ohio where he is and where I have no close support systems. What can I do to assure that I can keep my independence from him? He will be able to get a DNA test... there is absolutely NO uncertainty about paternity. I would like to have all my ducks in a row prior to him finding out what my plans are. I don't plan to be deceitful, but want to be prepared and knowledgable.

Thanks for your advice!

Paternity cannot be established until the child is born. If he wants visitation, and you want child support, an action establishing visitation and child support will have to be filed in the county and state where you are residing with the child after birth. A particular county will aquire jurisdiction if it is the county of birth, or if you move from there, where you wind up landing for the next six months.
