Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Should I have money in savings?

My (male) friend is filing for custody of his 2 young children. Should he show $20,000 in savings or should he purchase a vehicle (which would be his only one) and show he has no savings? Wondering if how his finances will be looked at, does he need to show he has savings or that if he would lose custody in the countersuit, that he has nothing saved? Or, should he take out a loan on the vehicle? Or purchase no new vehicle and keep the 11 year old one he now has?

The standard is "the best interest of the child".

Therefore the issue is not car vs. cash. The issue is which home will be all-round best for the kid. Cash and car may be component parts of that picture but kith & kin are also important components.
