mother that drinks too much

I would like to know how a person is to go about getting custody of a child who's mother drinks too much and is not taking care of child correctly.

One way is to report the mother's behavior and your concerns for the child to your county Children Services. They will look into your concern and, if there is a problem, will file will your county juvenile court for custody. You, then, would be able to ask for placement of the child to be made with you. If the case advances to this point and the child is placed with you, long term you may be able to ask for legal custody of the child particularly if the mother does not work/cooperate with the Children Services agency.
