Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio
Parental Rights
I'm a father with full custody of my 9 yr. old son. His mother, has schedule A visitation and I have been getting a lot of red flags from what I have seen and heard from the visits that occur unsupervised at the mother's residence. There is newspaper covering the windows to the garage and the basement, garbagebags decorate the front and back porches(I'm told constantly that they are cleaning), and during the past two summers my son has returned home with what I can only assume are flea bites on his legs. Last year I had unsuccessfully tried to get legal help to protect my son from infection from the bugs and the house conditions. I'm generally granted some access to the home when I have dropped him off but it has been difficult keeping that an agreement. During our hearing, I was pretty much ignored on all my complaints about the house and my sons condition. I'm at a loss for what to do. The CSB says they won't do anything unless my son comes home complaining about the house but he doesn't act like it's a problem. Of course not. He's nine years old. He doesn't care about that stuff, he goes over there to play with his half-brother and doesn't notice the garbage. My question is, what can I do as a custodial parent with no power?

Re: Parental Rights
Your son's welfare needs to be endangered. If health and safety are at issues, perhaps a doctor's report. You've already been to court about this. Have you tried voluntary mediation through the court system? This situation sounds like a good candidate for mediating differences.
