Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Power of Attorney

I live in Utah and my family lives in Ohio. My mother who is 90 signed a power of attorney to my brother after she was diagnosed with Alzheimers. I don't think she was totally aware of what she was doing.

She is now in a nursing home and my brother has complete control of any information concerning my mother. Because my brother had my mother admitted to the nursing home, I cannot be contacted by the nursing home even if my mother dies. The only one who can be contacted concerning my mother is my brother. There is no money involved. I would just like to be notified if something happens to my mother or if she needs anything. My question is: Is the power of attorney filed somewhere, and can I get access to it?

Re: Power of Attorney

No, the power of attorney stays with the person who is granted the power. Is it possible to ask your mother you put your name on the nursing home's contact list? A diagnosis of Alzheimers doesn't necessarily means that she in incompetent.
