I would like to know how to take the proper steps to ensure that my parents get guardianship of my daughter if something were to happen with her father & myself?

You can provide for guardianship of your daughter in your will and your daughter's father's will. I would advise you to contact an attorney to draft the will for you and your daughter's father.
