Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

property division

Our home was owned by my husband's mother prior to our marriage. She has since signed the home over to both of us. My husband constantly treatens me that if we separate I'm not entitled to any financial restitution. I've spent 14 years upgrading our home and he expects to walk away with nothing. Do I have a leg to stand on? I've just retired at age 55 and he is demanding I PLOP him the years of service he took out so he can retire in July. I give, he takes. Can I recover all of the money he has taken over the years even though this home was nothing and is now is something because of both of our hard work and money invested?

Re: property division

The marital estate includes any assets or debts that were acquired during the marriage. Each spouse is generally deemed to have an equal interest in marital assets or debts. There would have to written proof the house and all its improvements belong to only one spouse for it not to be considered a marital asset to be divided equally.
