Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

property possession

What are my rights to taking furniture out of the house that my husband are buying together. I am leaving him becaus of years of verbal abuse and it seems to be taking a turn for the worse I fear for my life. He hasn't hit me yet but he is confrontational. I haven't contacted a lawyer yet about the upcoming divorce. Nothing is in the court system.

Re: property possession

Furniture or household goods are normally considered marital property unless something has been determined to be an heirloom or belonging just to one person. I strongly suggest, since you sense an escalating abusive situation and are not at all sure that you are safe, that you contact a shelter, church, woman's hotline, or attorney, before taking an action that might trigger violent behavior against you.
