Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio
Relinquishing of Parental Rights
I have no relationship to speak of with my
daughters 16 & 13 who live in Ohio. I do
pay $650.00 per month child support( a small
portion of which is something called "poundage"?
If I were to relinquish my paternal rights,
could I discontinue paying child support?I realize this sounds like a very cold question
but facts are facts....the kids could care less if they ever saw me again
Thanks for your time

Re: Relinquishing of Parental Rights
I seriously doubt it. If there was such a loopwhole, I suspect there would be a stampede to the Court house. Poundage by the way is some obscure term that merely indicates a processing fee. I think it's around 2% but I could be wrong.
Only child placing agencies can accept "surrenders" of parental rights preparatory to terminating those rights to free a child for adoption. Since I assume the custodial parent is not interested in placing the child, or a step-parent is not interested in adopting (although if that's a possibility that would free you of any further responsibilities)that just simply not an option. Maybe one of the other attorneys has some additional information.
