Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Rights to unborn child

My ex-girlfriend is pregnant. She wants me to sign away my rights to the baby. She says she can take me to court and win. I got into some trouble as a juvenile, but I have been clean since then. I have a full time job so finances are not a problem. My question is: What are my rights and can she use my juvenile record against me in court?

Re: Rights to unborn child

You have no rights until after the child is born. At that point, you should establish paternity, and then you should have as good a chance as her to get custody in juvenile court. You might wish to consult a local attorney to see about getting your juvenile records sealed if it all happened some time ago. That way, she will have no way of using your past problems against you. Remember, the court determines what is in the best interests of the child looking at all the circumstances involved.
