Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio
Separation after 5 years
I have lived with a woman for the past five years, and we have a 3 year old child. We are not married. We have recently separated. I own a condo, and two cars, all under my name. What financial obligations and custody rights can I expect?

Child support is figured on the combined income of both parties, based on a statutory schedule. Custody is to be determined by the court, with prime consideration being given to who the primary caregiver has been for the child for its life.

You will be responsible for child support which is determined by a formula. A computation program for an approximate determination is found on the Summit County domestic relations web site. As far as custody or visitation, the Court will look to the best interest of the child with a preference to keep things status quo.
