Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

What exactly is shared parenting?

I am going through a divorce because my husband had a sickness and i can not deal with it anymore. He started abusing pain killers and got in alot of trouble from this situation. I don't think it is fair that he was so selfish & spent most money on those. There are children in the house and i can not put them through it anymore, even though he swears he will stop this time. Anyways, he is under the understanding that if we have shared parenting our child will live w/me for 1 week and then him the next. I dont find that to be a very good thing, especially for a 3 year old little girl. I need to know if there is a chance that he could get this granted to him. I guess i should also say that he has a record and has served some time in jail and is on probation right now.

Re: What exactly is shared parenting?

Shared parenting does not mean splitting the time between a child and parents equally. While a court may do the week to week schedule, they generally do not even under a shared parenting plan. Shared parenting is more about the right to share in decision-making regarding the minor child and access to records. Good luck. Stephen E.S. Daray 440.835.8200
