Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

No show or worse?

My friend has been trying to get a

divorce for a few months now and he

finally got his ex to sign the papers and

turn them in yesterday. Now she's

threatening no to show up on the court

date, saying that they will still be

married then and there's nothing he can

do about it. Is that true? Also, if that

doesn't work, what can she do now to

mess with him? How can he ensure the

divorce finalizes?

Re: No show or worse?

What she says is true, if there is a dissolution of marriage pending. If both parties do not show up for a dissolution, it will be dismissed, or one party can file a motion to convert it to a divorce. If it is dismissed, the appearing party must file a complaint for divorce and serve him with it by certified mail.
