Unfortunately, as the father, he has the same rights as any "putative" or potential father. By that I mean, you or he can file an action in court to determine the parent child relationship (DNA testing). This can have some advantages in that you are legally entitled to support from him, assuming there is anything to get. But he could also petition for visitation or even custody of the child (not as likely in situations that you describe). If you don't want either support or his involvement, I guess you can hope he just goes away. But make sure to the extent possible you always know where he is. If someday, you want to terminate his involvement by having the child adopted by a future husband or you wish to place the child adoptively, make sure he gets notice of that fact.
